One of the first things you are taught when you start your internet business is that writing is a great marketing tool.

But have you ever gotten the impression that a lot of the newsletter and ezine authors are writing because they have to, rather than having something useful to say.

It is very common that people are writing to write and not to add quality or help for their future client base.

How can you change this?

Dale Carnegie has a great saying, “You can make more friends in two months by becoming really interested in other people, than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”

So, what should you do as a new online business owner who is trying to ‘make friends’?

Write with a goal. Think of what your ‘clients’ may be looking for and say it in a simple, easy to read way. You don’t have to be wordy to get an important point across.

Be yourself. Write in your voice as it will make you a person who cares what the reader needs. Your goal is to be a real person who is interested in the needs of the reader.

Make it helpful to your business. If you are explaining a product or service, add in your personal story into it. Keep in mind, you want to convey that you are a real person.

Be optimistic. There is a huge amount of negativity in our world, and people don’t need threats or warnings of doom. Keep your writing cheerful and discuss the positives of what you are explaining.

People like to be entertained. If you can get your point across with an anecdote, or with passion involved, you will have a greater impression on your audience.

Generate an internal response with the reader. Writing is a two way conversation. What you write should create a response from the reader. As a writer, I feel, we overlook that there are people who are going to be reading our words, we are in a conversation with them. Use words that create a picture, your reader will appreciate it.

It is possible for anyone to communicate as a writer, and convey the message they want to get across. Think of those times when you were telling a story, and your audience was listening to every word, you created the scene in there minds. As an Internet marketer you want to do the same thing.

Keep your writing in your words, do not try to be someone that you are not. If you are new to Online Business, talk about how you are overcoming obstacles, not how to be an effective marketer. As you get experience you can talk about specifics of marketing and what has worked for you.

More than anything else, be friendly and yourself, and good things will come from your writing.
