Time Management When Working At Home

Now that I am full time working for myself on the internet I have more time to make money. For the first 4 years of my internet marketing business I was part time. I would get up and work 2 hours or so each morning before work and another 2 hours or so later in the day depending on my kids sports schedules. I coached basketball and helped with soccer so we were busy. I understand how hard it is to get started if you want to
make money online. It really takes time management.

A friend of mine, Jeff Casmer, emailed me last night wanting to know how I spend my time each day. He asked

What is a typical day for you? How much do you build pages, post in forums, etc……

So here is a typical day for me. I usually get up somewhere between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. This gives me 2-3 hours before I have to take my son to school. The majority of that time is spent going thru my email. Yesterday I read something from Yanik Silver, an internet marketing guru, where he was saying he has joined MySpace because he is fascinated with social marketing. I agree with that. I like to quickly read stuff from people more successful than me. I have learned alot just reading newsletters and emails from these people.

About 3 months ago I decided that instead of dreading going thru my email (I get over 800 emails a day and most of them are junk) I would take the time to encourage it as a way to be more interactive with my visitors and subscribers to my free make money newsletter. I now view this as one of the most important things I do everyday.

I continue to check and reply to my email off an on all day. My new JV With Jeff program is creating alot of questions and I like to try and get back to people ASAP when they are online and in the mood for how to make money.

The other thing I do almost every morning is post in my blogs. I am trying to make the posts in my make money blog more like a diary and not so much just posting an article in it. I do mostly post articles in some of the other blogs I have.

At 7:00 I take my son to school. When I get home I will take my dog for a 30-45 minute walk. When I get back I check my emails again and will look at my stats from the previous day. I spend maybe 15 minutes taking alook at the various programs to see how much money I made in them. I even go so far to jot down the main ones. I have a daily income goal and this helps keep me focused on hitting that goal.

Around 8:30 I take a shower and then eat breakfast. If I am tired I might take a 20-30 minute power nap. Around 10:00 I get back online and return email and start hanging out in some of the forums I am in. Forum marketing has become a valuable way to get traffic to my webiste. I can always tell when I have slacked off on this because my visitors to my site and my Google Adsense income is always lower on these days. All I do on forum marketing is respond to posts if I feel I have something to offer. I very rarely create a new post. If I see something I like I will subscribe to it and this gets me notified by email whenver a new post is made by someone so I can go back and reply again if I want to.

At 12:00-12:30 I will have lunch and watch a little news. At 1:00 I almost always watch a show on MSNBC called “The Most” This is a look at what are the most searched topics online, the most watched t.v. shows, the most questions being asked at the msnbc blog, etc. Just the most of everything. I like this show and if I am tired I will probably nod off for another 20-30 minute nap. Around 2:00 I hop back online and catch up on email. I will start to write an article for something here as well.

I usually have to pick up my son and take him to the rec center at 3:00 and pick him up at 5:00. I also will cook something for dinner and walk my dog one more time in the early evening. Having 2 heart attacks gives me the incentive to get out and walk 2 times a day.

The rest of my day is spent trying to write 2-3 or more articles and submitting them to Article Marketer. I also will set up phone appointments if someone wants to talk. I do not charge for my time if I feel I can help someone and they are in a program I am in. I will add any articles you all submit to me. I am building fresh content on my sites doing this as well as creating traffic to the pages I build which has affiliate links to my partners programs on the pages. This is a cool way I have come up to help people. I do not know of anyone else doing this.

I will work online ,off and on all day until 10:00 p.m. or so. If I have things to do I do them. I don’t watch much t.v. except an occasional movie and sports. I think the key things are going for backlinks with article marketing and forum marketing. Also since my niche is the make money online group becoming more interactive with people is a big key.

Lastly I am developing a new website based around the theme of Ideas. This is a directory that I can take wherever I want. If I want I can probably just work on this website for the rest of my life just adding sub domains and files around various topics and keywords. I intend to continue to work in articles from my affiliates and monetize the pages with both of our links to ppc, ppl, and pps programs.

I think the key thing for part time people looking to make money online is to go for traffic from backlinks. Affiliate marketing is good because it gives you everything you need to get started and allow you to focus on traffic.

That sounds quit a bit like I spend my vacation time and weekends since I started my Plug-in-Profits site just over a month ago. A few exceptions are that I haven’t started posting much on forums. I suppose one reason I haven’t is because I don’t know enough to answer other peoples questions, in fact I some times wonder if I know enough to ask intelligent questions at all some times. The last question I ask someone had the answer on the line under where I got the question.
Another is that when I write articles about internet marketing I am only giving a slightly different cast to what someone else has already said. I feel like I am trying to get over on people most of the time because I am talking about something I know virtually nothing about. The sad part is based on what I have read lately with me knowing I know hardly anything about internet marketing i some time feel i know more that most of the people whose articles I read.

At any rate I have probably over staid my welcome.
    Keep up the good work.
    Sim
