Text link advertising is not for everyone. After a couple of years of people emailing me and wanting to advertise on Team-Schuman.com I decided to offer text links.

So if I am doing it why would I write that text link advertising is not for everyone. Here’s why I say that

1. A text link ad is a keyword phrase hyperlinked back to a web page or blog page. For example I have a text link ad for the words make money at home with a article directory. That phrase is linked back to my home page.

That’s great, but what if that is the only words I am linking from and my home page is the only page I link back to. This can be a problem. One link in itself is not a big deal, but if you buy a link that ends up on a full run of site it could be.

2. So you need to link back to you home page for more than one keyword. In my case I am on page one of Google for over 1200 keyword phrases so you get the idea on that. Here’s another example. I just bought a text link for the words network marketing from Link Trade Exchange. They are also linking me from multiple websites using various other keyword phrases such as network marketing business, internet network marketing business etc.

3. You should link back to different pages than your home page. I would use the words make money quick and link to that specific web page. Then I would get backlinks going for that phrase to that specific web page. If you Google search the words make money quick you will see I am on page one.

4. One other important thing is the page rank of the website your test link is on. You are looking for web pages that are a PR3 or higher. This is Googles’ ranking system for the worth of a page and it helps improve your own page rank when you are on a page that has good page rank.

You will expect to pay more for a text link from a web page with a PR6 then you would from a page that is a PR3.

5. Do not do this just for the backlink you get. That is important, but keep in mind that a text link on a website that gets a lot of traffic could bring some traffic to you. My Team-Schuman home page would be a great page to be on because it gets over 45,000 unique visitors a month and is growing. The way I feature the ads gives everyone an excellent chance to get some traffic if someone is interested in what your site is about.

6. Be prepared to keep the link you buy. I bought my make money at home link over 3 years ago and I pay $50 every month for it just like clockwork. I am getting backlinks for that phrase and I do not want to lose them. If you buy a phrase stick with it and view it as part of monthly advertising budget for long term traffic.

Getting links back to your site is important if you are looking for long term traffic. If you all do is pay per click advertising then you do not care about this.

But if you would like your website to get organic traffic by ranking high on the search engines then backlinks are they key. If your site is new getting the search engines to spider it more often is important and buying a text link on a website that is already getting spidered is a quick way to get your site spidered.
