Geriatric Marketing

What is geriatric marketing. Let’s talk a little about it.

I am on the staff of the PIPS Power Group and Niche Power Group. Unfortunately I happen to be the oldest person on the staff at 50 years old.

The fact that I have gray hair doesn’t help me when it comes to people thinking how old I am. But after 2 heart attacks, 4 cardiac arrests, and 3 angioplasties before I was 40 I am just glad to be alive. :-)

Hearing about what happened to Ed McMahon recently has got me thinking about a new target market that I’m going to term geriatric marketing. Remember you heard that phrase from me first because it is going to be the next wave of Internet marketers.

The bottom line is that most people cannot afford to retire at 65 years of age anymore. This is a sad fact of life that has many of them looking for ways to continue to make money as people continue to have longer life spans.

Although this age group of people did not grow up with computers like our kids have, they are quickly becoming more used to them, and it is only a matter of time before they all migrate into the Internet marketing business world.

It is already happening!

This is a perfect match made in heaven if you ask me. You are taking people who have a need for, an interest in, and a desire to make more money. They also possess a fantastic work ethic, which will come in handy as they battle learning the necessary skills to become successful online.

If you can find ways to get in front of the geriatric market, you can help a lot of people and potentially make a lot of money yourself. This will also mean being very helpful to them when they need it.

I also think you are going to have to make it easy for this group of people to get started on the internet. That may mean providing pre-built unique blogs or websites, and teaching them exactly how to promote their business.

If ever there was a group of people that would follow exact instructions in my opinion, the geriatric market is it. If you can offer precise instructions on how to make money on the Internet this group of people will follow you to the end of the earth.

There is little doubt geriatric marketing will be the next wave of people getting involved with internet marketing. There will be a small group of us who are waiting to welcome them with open arms and add to our own success while helping create theirs.

You can start by offering them this great eBook “20 Ways To Make $100 A Day Online” and then let them choose how they want to use the internet to make money. This book offers real life examples of people making real mony online everyday!

    Hi Jeff,

This is a great post. The geriatric market may enable me to use what I am spending so much time learning (some times the hard way) about website development. Very useful information.

Jeff, I think you are right on. I happen to be one of those geriatric souls. I semi retired at 70, but my mind did not. I still do part time work for medicare insurance sales which are referred to me. However that’s not enough, Sitting around is very boring. I’m not alone. There are a ton of currently retired and many more soon to be. Many of them are very computer savy although not entrepreneurial. Internet marketing is a differant animal and although some skills are transferable, there are many new skills involved which we have not learned. Specific instruction regarding web pages, additions, changes etc. would be very helpful and speed the process along. I might also add that although being retired should give one a lot of time, this is not the case in my situation.

    William,

I know I am right on with this because I have received several emails from older internet marketers and the response has been great. Good luck.

    Ed,

Thanks for your reply. I do thinkl we are going to have to make it easier for the older generation to get involved and make money. Here is one site started by a 67 year old that you might look at, it is free to join…

Jeff, interesting topic. I’m in my early sixties, retired, and have just started a blog as a first step. Now I am, this week, going to set up a website. I know I have a lot to learn and the internet is vast. But I agree that geriatric marketing is the wave of the future. I’m with Ed in that we need specific instructions, but we made it this far and with the right instructors I know we can effectively work from home and make a good income.

    Hi Jeff,

I can relate to the post and idea as I have one foot into the geriatric door and because of the real estate crash am finding I need to support my family. I am currently involved in the PIPS group and I think that us boomers are open to the web and intuitively know that it is viable. You are proof that if one learns how to market on the net that it can be done. Thanks for your great example.

I received my articles from you today and they read great - Thanks!
Now I have to figure out what to do with them.

    Continued success,
    John
