My Team-Schuman blog is a make money blog that has several different categories relating to making money. According to Google it has a page rank of PR4. Not bad, but it got me thinking about what makes a really good blog. Along those lines in this months issue of IAHBE they show 3 examples of blogs that I would consider really good.

Instapundit.com/ is a PR7 blog according to Google. It is a political blog that contains pictures, graphs, a lot of fresh content and much interaction between it’s readers and the publisher. It is over 4 years old.

Gawker.com/ is a mix of pop culture and media gossip. This is a PR7 blog that is almost 5 years old. Gawker is compulsory reading for New York editors and reporters, and often sets the agenda for the entertainment weeklies, gossip columns such as Page Six, and the soft sections of newspapers such as the New York Times. This has a very targeted audience with a lot of fresh content.

Wonkette addresses DC gossip and is very politically incorrect. This is a PR8 blog again with a very targeted audience.

The number one business related blog is Engadget.com/. This is a PR8 blog with over 25,000 links to it. Again the thing that sticks out to me is the massive amount of content, fresh content, targeted audience, and I really like how pictures are used to draw the reader into the content.

So here is the question. Do you have a blog of your own? If not why not! Here are the 4 steps to getting a blog going.

1. Choose a theme for your blog.

2. Create an account. There are many to choose from, but Blogger.com is a very easy way to get started.

3. Choose a name for your blog. Include keywords in your name that relate to your theme. If you blog is about dog treats get those words in the name.

4. Pick your template. Blogger makes this very easy to do. Pick one you like. If you do go with Blogger join Google Adsense and put some ads on your posts. This is easy to do and eventually you can make enough money with Google to fund your monthly marketing costs. I do!

Here is a very interesting blog post I came across about how to evangelize your blog byGuy Kawasaki. His blog is only a little over 1 year old, but it really shows what you can do with a blog if you work at it. His blog is a sub domain. His main website has PR6 as compared to his blog which is a PR7.

So what does all of this mean. Who cares about page rank anyway. Personally I view page rank as a rating of importance given by Google. My point in bringing it up in relation to all of these really good blogs is that you can get backlinks to your blog as well as your main website. Your blog can be your website it you want it to be.

If you do it right your blog can draw incredible amounts of traffic and become your main source of income as well. Think about all of the repeat traffic a really good blog gets. I know I have a lot of work to do on my blog to get tot that point, but outside of marketing your business there isn’t anything more important than working on your blog.
