Avoid Duplicate Content

avoid duplicate content graphic

This is important so listen up. Alot is being made about duplicate content these days. I tend to agree that when it comes to doing article marketing having fresh content can be a real plus.

But how important is it to avoid duplicate content otherwise?

Duplicate content is content that you can find on the web already. Let’s take a look at a different viewpoint of duplicate content you might not have thought of.

There are basically three things I can think of that can happen when it comes to duplicate content.

1. The content is so valuable that you offer it on your website or blog. If you’re smart you’ll add your own thoughts to it a by creating an introduction and a closing. Just offer your opinion about the content you are listing.

2. People just plain steal your content and claim it as their own. There really is nothing good about this type of content, for you or for them!

3. You use content in the form of an article and you give credit for it to the original author. This could be good for you, but the person using it really does not get a lot of benefit out of it from a search engine standpoint.

Have you heard of the Plugin Profit Site?

This is an affiliate program where you get your own unique website set up and coded with your own affiliate ID numbers. Other than the affiliate id numbers the content on the site is the same for everyone when it is first set up.

So it is not that unique. One question that came up recently, in their forum, was how important is it that this website be different from all the other ones. This is a good question!

There really is nothing wrong with having a website that is similar to other peoples. But in the PIPS program you have 100% control over your site so you can avoid duplicate content by just making a few word changes here and there.

You can also do more to your website, but you may not even need to worry about it!

There are a number of ways to get traffic to your website without worrying about whether a search engine is checking to see if you are avoiding duplicate content.

Some of these that come to mind include article marketing, traffic exchanges, pay per click advertising, forum marketing, e-zine marketing, classified advertising, blogging, social bookmarking, social networking, and so on.

These are all forms of advertising you can do on the Internet, and really not worry about what the search engines think of your website or the content on it. The nice thing about this is you can get visitors and drive traffic to your site based on doing these types of advertising.

You are not specifically targeting search engines because you’re not worried about the content on your site, or the content of an article, or the keywords you are targeting, etc.

So to summarize this article on should you avoid duplicate content here is what we have found.

The answer is really what your goal is with your website and how you are going to promote it. The easiest way I know to avoid duplicate content is to start your own blog and add blog articles to it on a regular basis.

If you blog and just type your own thoughts on specific subjects your content will always be fresh. You will always be avoiding duplicate content anyway if you do this.

Other than that the method you choose to advertise will determine whether duplicate content is an important issue to your website.

    Hi Jeff,
Good post. This gives us pips members something to think about. Since I am working on making my site unique and have started adding fresh content maybe this will eventually hold more weight for rankings than the original content.

Great facts Jeff! And indeed, it all depends on the purpose of your website in regards to duplicate content…as you remind myself now…it duplicate content in regards to Google should end in the “supplemental listings” of their rank of search importance and content uniqueness.

Thanks for the article, it refreshed my mind quite enough…

    Joaquin
